Evansville, IN – November 15, 2025 – A heartbreaking accident in Evansville on Sunday afternoon claimed the life of 14-year-old Alexander Hessler and left four others injured when a speeding car became airborne and crashed into a tree. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community as authorities continue to investigate the cause.

    What Happened

The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Orchard Road, where a vehicle with five individuals inside was traveling east at dangerously high speeds. According to officials, the car went airborne for about 50 feet after cresting a hill, before crashing into a tree and coming to a stop in the street.

Sadly, 14-year-old Alexander Hessler, a rear seat passenger, was ejected from the car after being thrown through the window. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby medical facility, but he tragically passed away from his injuries shortly thereafter. The driver and the other three passengers sustained minor injuries.

    The Investigation

Authorities have indicated that excessive speed is believed to be a significant factor in the crash, although the investigation is ongoing. No further details regarding the circumstances of the accident have been released, but officials are continuing to assess the scene and gather evidence.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of the deceased victim as Alexander Hessler on Monday. The young boy was a student at Reitz High School, and his death has left a deep void in the hearts of family, friends, and the school community.

    Community Reactions

In a statement issued by the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC), the district expressed their sorrow over the loss: “We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our students, and our deepest sympathies are with the family, friends, and the entire Reitz community during this difficult time.”

The tragedy has brought the community together, with many mourning the untimely passing of a young life full of promise. The investigation continues as authorities work to understand the circumstances surrounding the crash and prevent similar incidents in the future.
