In a quiet but tragic turn of events in Waco, police have confirmed that the victim of Wednesday night’s fatal pedestrian crash was 79-year-old Andres Estrada.

Just after 10:10 p.m. on December 3, officers responded to the 2400 block of South 21st Street after receiving reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. There, they discovered Estrada, who had been hit by a northbound vehicle — later described as a Chevy Impala.

First responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Impala remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, according to the Waco Police Department. At this point, authorities have not released the driver’s name and no arrests have been made — the investigation remains ongoing.

News outlets say the identification of Estrada came in an announcement by Waco PD earlier today, ending a period of uncertainty for residents.

Neighbors and people familiar with Estrada described him as an older resident of the community — the kind of man people nodded to when passing by. The sudden loss has left a quiet sadness among those who knew him, underscoring how fragile life remains even along regularly traveled streets.

As the community grapples with the shock of his death, the investigation continues. Police are working to piece together exactly what happened that night — including conditions on 21st Street, visibility, and whether more could have been done to prevent the crash.

This heartbreaking accident serves as a somber reminder: every pedestrian deserves safe passage, and every moment outside a car merits caution — whether you’re behind the wheel or simply walking home.
