Jacinta Stevens Death and Obituary – The city of Pittsburgh is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jacinta Stevens, a 31-year-old resident of the city’s West End, who tragically lost her life after her vehicle plunged into the Monongahela River late Thursday evening. Her sudden passing has left her family, friends, and the wider community devastated, as they struggle to process the loss of a young woman remembered for her warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit.

First responders were dispatched to the 900 block of Second Avenue in the Bluff neighborhood at approximately 4:36 p.m. after emergency calls reported that a vehicle had entered the river from the Parkway East. The response quickly escalated into a complex and dangerous rescue operation as harsh winter conditions, limited visibility, and frigid water temperatures posed significant challenges.

Dive teams bravely entered the icy river around 5:20 p.m., working against the fading daylight and hazardous currents. At approximately 5:45 p.m., Jacinta was located inside the submerged vehicle. Using a rope system and a stokes basket, rescuers carefully secured her and brought her to safety. Emergency medical personnel immediately began life-saving efforts before transporting her to a nearby hospital. Despite their tireless attempts, Jacinta later succumbed to her injuries.

Investigators believe the vehicle left the roadway from the Parkway East before plunging into the river. Initial concerns suggested the possibility that more than one vehicle may have entered the water; however, a subsequent dive confirmed that Jacinta was the sole victim in the incident. Authorities reported that the vehicle was found roughly five feet from a wall beneath the surface and will be recovered at a later date as part of the ongoing investigation.

Officials praised the courage and dedication of the responding crews, including dive teams, firefighters, and off-duty paramedics who assisted in the rescue. Many placed themselves in harm’s way, navigating treacherous conditions in an unwavering effort to save a life. Their actions were described as heroic, underscoring the risks first responders face in moments of crisis.

While the circumstances of Jacinta Stevens’ death are tragic, those who knew her hope she will be remembered for far more than the accident that claimed her life. She is being remembered as a compassionate and caring individual who touched the lives of many through her generosity, empathy, and genuine connections with others. Her passing has left a profound void in the Pittsburgh community, particularly in the West End where she was known and loved.

As family and friends grieve this unimaginable loss, messages of sympathy and support have poured in from across the city. Jacinta’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who cherished her. May she rest in peace, and may her loved ones find strength, comfort, and healing during this incredibly difficult time.
