The hearts of family and friends are breaking this morning after the tragic loss of James Earl Holder, a 58-year-old man from North Carolina, who died in a devastating crash on Interstate 30 in Bowie County, Texas. He was traveling as a passenger in the sleeper berth of a big rig when the collision occurred.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety investigators, the wreck happened around 2:20 a.m. on Nov. 21, near mile marker 198, just west of New Boston. The driver of the tractor-trailer was attempting to pass a slower vehicle coming over a hill. In that maneuver, he swerved into another lane and struck the right rear of a second 18-wheeler already traveling beside him.

Both trucks came to rest across the highway, and their cargo spilled onto the road, triggering a major cleanup and blocking I-30 for some time. Emergency crews responded swiftly, but tragically, James did not survive despite their efforts.

James’ family and friends describe him as a man of quiet strength and kindness. Though details about his life are still emerging, those who knew him remember his gentle heart, his warm smile, and how he carried himself with humility. Even on the road, he was more than just a traveler—he was someone who cared deeply, and his presence left a mark.

There are no reports yet of other fatalities, though the second truck was clearly involved in the crash. Authorities confirm the investigation is ongoing.

In the wake of his death, loved ones are grappling with grief, but they’re leaning into the memories that defined James: the strength he quietly showed, the laughter he shared, and the sense of home he brought when he was around. It’s a life being honored not for how it ended, but for how fully it was lived.

Though the road ahead for his family will be difficult, they cherish the moments he gave them—every conversation, every smile, every kindness. His passing leaves a void, but his memory lives on in every life he touched.

    Forever loved. Forever remembered.
