The loss of Aron Jaime landed quietly and then all at once. On Sunday, the Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District confirmed that Jaime, a 34-year-old firefighter, died in a crash while he was off duty. By the time the news reached his colleagues and neighbors, the details already felt secondary to the absence he left behind.

Jaime lived in Joliet and had spent a decade serving with Morris Fire Protection, years that shaped both his career and the department itself. Though he officially became a full-time firefighter in May, those close to the district say his commitment long predated the title. He showed up early, stayed late, and carried himself with the steady confidence of someone who knew exactly why he had chosen this line of work.

In a statement, Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District described Jaime as more than a uniform and a badge. He was, they said, “a valued member of the District,” remembered not only for his professionalism and dedication, but for a personality that made hard days easier. It was his smile, the kind that could cut through tension in a firehouse or calm a room after a long call, that people keep coming back to when they talk about him.

Those who worked alongside Jaime say he had a way of balancing seriousness with warmth. He took the job seriously—training, protocols, teamwork—but never forgot the human side of it. Whether mentoring younger firefighters or checking in on coworkers after tough shifts, he carried himself with an easy empathy that made people feel seen.

That sense of community will be on full display this week as friends, family, and fellow first responders gather to honor him. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, located at 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. In keeping with firefighter tradition, a first responder walk-through will take place at 6 p.m., a solemn moment meant to acknowledge both service and sacrifice.

For the Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District, Jaime’s death is a painful reminder that danger does not always arrive with sirens and dispatch calls. Sometimes it comes quietly, away from the job, leaving departments to grieve one of their own without the structure of duty to lean on.

What remains, though, is the imprint Aron Jaime left behind: ten years of service, countless calls answered, and a reputation built as much on kindness as on competence. In the stories shared by coworkers and the turnout expected at his visitation, it’s clear that his impact stretched far beyond any single shift—and that his memory will continue to live on in the people he served beside.
