A quiet Sunday night in Blooming Grove erupted into tragedy when deputies found 38-year-old Jacqueline Korb of Aurora, Indiana dead in her pickup truck — the victim of a freak, fatal accident triggered by a deer.

It happened around 9 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 1 and Davis Road, officials said. Responding deputies discovered a maroon Dodge Ram with Korb slumped in the driver’s seat, having suffered fatal injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates the pickup was traveling southbound on State Road 1 when a vehicle heading north struck a deer. The force launched the deer airborne, and it crashed through Korb’s windshield. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation. Agencies assisting with the probe include the Blooming Grove Fire Department, the Franklin County Coroner’s Office, and Letts EMS.

Neighbors described Korb as a friendly and cautious driver — the sort who would slow at deer-crossing signs, precisely because incidents like this are sadly not uncommon in rural Indiana. According to local officials, the county has seen multiple deer-vehicle collisions in recent weeks, especially on State Road 1, as deer become more active this time of year.

In a region where dusk and dawn bring heightened wildlife activity, many remind drivers to stay alert. But as Korb’s death shows, even caution may not always be enough when a deer is launched through a windshield with deadly velocity.

The Buck Run season, winding daylight and high deer movement — combined with limited visibility on rural roads — make this stretch especially hazardous. Still, few could have foreseen such a tragic chain reaction as Sunday’s crash.

In the small town of Aurora and surrounding communities, there is now grief, disbelief and a renewed warning: the woods may be quiet — but danger can still leap across the road without warning.
