A man was shot and killed in the Fairhill section of Philadelphia on Friday morning, according to police. The shooting happened inside a rowhome apartment building on the 2800 block of Hope Street. Police said the victim, a 60-year-old man, was shot in the chest and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:20 a.m. There are over 20 witnesses to the shooting between the first- and second-floor apartments in the rowhome building, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said at the scene. Lumberton Township Mayor Gina LaPlaca was indicted on child abuse charges Thursday, Burlington County officials said. Burlington County prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw announced that the 46-year-old mayor of the New Jersey township was indicted on charges of failing to protect her young child, who was inside the car while she was allegedly driving drunk. A grand jury charged LaPlaca with endangering the welfare of a child and child abuse offenses. She is scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 8 in Superior Court in Mount Holly, New Jersey. The crash happened on the 4200 block of North Reese Street, just off Hunting Park Avenue in the city’s Hunting Park neighborhood. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s vaccine advisory panel voted Friday to change the recommendation for when children should get their first dose of the hepatitis B vaccine.
