PARK RIDGE, Ill. (AP) — It was 3:30 a.m. when 10 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers gathered in a parking lot in the Chicago suburbs for a briefing about a suspect they were hoping to arrest. They went over a description of the person, made sure their radios were on the same channel and discussed where the closest hospital was in case something went wrong. “Let’s plan on not being there,” said one of the officers, before they climbed into their vehicles and headed out. Across the city and surrounding suburbs, other teams were fanning out in support of…
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — It’s a first-time meeting, but the storylines run deep. Bowling Green brings a ground-first mentality and some playmakers on defense, but the Cardinals counter with a top-10 defense and explosive skill position threats. Coming off a bye week, Louisville looks to sharpen its…

WASHINGTON (AP) — As House Speaker Mike Johnson gathered lawmakers this week to mourn Charlie Kirk, he summed up the grief felt by many on Capitol Hill — and the pervasive fear. “For so many of us, it has felt as if the ground was shaken,” said Johnson, R-La. The killing of Kirk, the prominent conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder, has unnerved lawmakers in both parties, amplifying their long-standing concerns about safety in a heated political climate where threats against political rivals and calls to violence have become frighteningly common. Responding to those concerns, Senate Majority Leader John…
Days after Meagan Brazil-Sheehan’s 6-year-old son was diagnosed with leukemia, they were walking down the halls of UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center when they ran into Robin the Robot. “Luca, how are you?” it asked in a high-pitched voice programmed to sound like a 7-year-old girl. “It’s been awhile.” Brazil-Sheehan said they had only met the 4-foot-tall (1.2-meter-tall) robot with a large screen displaying cartoonlike features once before after they were admitted several days earlier. “His face lit up,” she said about the interaction in June in Worcester, Massachusetts. “It was so special because she remembered him.” Robin is an…

Americans’ grocery bills are growing, causing some shoppers to cut back on discretionary spending as they find themselves struggling to afford the basics. Food prices grew by half a percent from July to August, marking the fastest monthly rate of change since the fall of 2022. Behind the rising cost of food items on store shelves are three main culprits, according to experts. The Trump administration’s wide-ranging tariffs, climate change and a shortage of agricultural workers in the U.S. are the leading causes of grocery inflation, Phil Lempert, a food industry analyst also known as the “Supermarket Guru,” told CBS…
Washington — Contribute money to the new White House ballroom President Trump is constructing and, in exchange, donors may be able to choose a Trumpian option: their names etched inside the White House forever. At least that’s one option that has been discussed. Also under consideration: listing donor names on a website, though no final decision has been made. Multiple companies have pledged to donate $5 million or more for what was projected to be a $200 million addition to the executive mansion, according to sources familiar with the matter. Mr. Trump has had personal discussions with business executives about chipping in,…

A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting at a television station building in Sacramento. Sacramento police say officers responded to the 400 block of Broadway, the ABC10 building, just after 1:30 p.m. local time on Friday to investigate reports of shots fired. At the scene, police say officers found that the building had been struck by gunfire. Police say at least three rounds struck the building, apparently hitting a window. No injuries were reported. Police classified the incident as a drive-by shooting, saying it appeared a vehicle drove by the building, fired, then drove away. On Saturday…
