Tropical Storm Gabrielle is expected to strengthen into a hurricane on Sunday after forming on Wednesday morning over the central Atlantic Ocean, becoming the seventh named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. Forecasters expect the weather system to remain over open waters for the next several days. The Miami-based National Hurricane Center said Gabrielle’s center is expected to pass east of Bermuda on Monday. No watches or warnings were in effect, however. Authorities are investigating after a person was shot near a Rowan University residence hall early Sunday morning, according to an email Rowan police sent to students. Investigators said the shooting happened off campus in the area of North Main Street, specifically on the sidewalk outside of Rowan’s Holly Pointe Commons residence hall, shortly before 2 a.m. A person fired a weapon from a car, striking another person who was standing on the sidewalk, Rowan police said. Major European airports are starting to recover after they were hit by a cyberattack that affected check-in systems, causing flight cancellations and huge delays for thousands of passengers over the past two days. Starting late Friday, major airports in Brussels, London and Berlin were hit by disruptions to electronic systems that snarled up check-in and sent airline staffers trying options like handwriting boarding passes or using backup laptops. LAKE FOREST, Ill. – One person was hospitalized after an Amtrak train hit a construction vehicle in north suburban Lake Forest. What we know: The crash happened around noon near the intersection of Everett and Waukegan roads, according to the Lake Forest Police Department. First responders found a front-end loader that had been hit by a southbound train that was headed toward Chicago. The front-end loader was performing maintenance on the track when it was struck.
