AURORA, Ill – Aurora police rescued a dog from a burning home last week after responding to a house fire in the western suburbs, officials said. Around 12:50 p.m. on Sept. 11, officers and firefighters were called to the 2000 block of Whitehall Court, where flames were visible at the rear of a home, according to an Aurora Police Department statement. COOK COUNTY – A person was shot and killed early Wednesday during a possible home invasion at a home in south suburban Steger, police said. What we know: Officers responded around 2:30 a.m. to the 3000 block of Butler Street after receiving a report of a home invasion in progress. Residents told police that an unknown male had entered the home, and they locked themselves in a room for safety. CHICAGO – A man was charged with attempted murder after pushing a CTA rider onto the train tracks Wednesday afternoon in the Loop. What we know: David Norris, 42, allegedly pushed a 51-year-old man off the Washington Blue Line platform and onto the train tracks, according to Chicago police. Norris was arrested just before 5 p.m. in the Loop. He was charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery in a public place and aggravated battery of a transit passenger. CHICAGO – Chicago police are warning drivers after a series of overnight car burglaries in neighborhoods near O’Hare Airport. What we know: Police said the burglaries happened Sept. 9 between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., and that pickup trucks parked in hotel parking lots were targeted.
