California lawmakers voted to ban a group of chemicals known as PFAS, which are often called “forever chemicals,” in cookware. The move has pulled in celebrity chefs on one side and environmentalists, including actor Mark Ruffalo, on the other. The proposal, Senate Bill 682, would prohibit PFAS in cookware, cleaning products, dental floss, ski wax, food packaging and certain children’s products. A juvenile girl is recovering after she was shot at a recreation center in Northeast Philadelphia Saturday night, police said. Investigators were notified about a shooting at the Fox Chase Recreation Center, which is located at 7901 Ridgeway Street, just before 8:30 p.m. Philadelphia police said a juvenile girl was shot at the rec center and then brought to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital by medics. Sunday hunting in Pennsylvania kicks off today. Sept. 14 is the first Sunday hunters are allowed to hunt this season under a new law. In July, Gov. Josh Shapiro signed Allegheny County state Rep. Mandy Steele’s bill, which repealed what lawmakers called the “outdated” ban on Sunday hunting. Previously, hunters were only allowed to hunt on three Sundays a season.
