As political leaders across the globe gather in hastily arranged summits, shifting alliances are signaling a potential global realignment. The spark? Israel’s strike against Hamas leaders in Doha and the growing unpredictability of US foreign policy under Donald Trump. These events have brought unlikely allies together, testing the limits of traditional power structures. What Happened In the wake of Israel’s strike against Hamas leaders in Doha, tensions flared across the Middle East, prompting a series of diplomatic moves. Gulf leaders, once embroiled in a bitter feud, have shown unprecedented solidarity. The UAE’s president, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, made an…
Perhaps it was some sort of omen that the first play of the game was a penalty? Chicago Bears kicker Cairo Santos sent the ball into the air to open the game, and the kickoff promptly sailed out of bounds. Cue penalty No. 1. That was the first of eight flags the Bears collected Sunday. It’s better than the 12 penalties the Bears had Monday, but barely. The Bears had more issues beyond flags, though. All of it added up to 52-21 butt kicking at Ford Field. Ben Johnson’s old friends did to him what they did to plenty of…

Sunday’s 77th Primetime Emmy Awards arrive with clear favorites but few sure things. Will the acclaim for “Adolescence” carry it to limited series dominance, or will “The Penguin” complete a run that began with big nomination numbers and continued with a big performance at the Creative Arts Emmys? Will top overall nominee “Severance” reign like “Succession” and “Shogun” did before it? And can any comedy stop “The Studio?” Associated Press Writers Alicia Rancilio and Andrew Dalton share their predictions in 10 top categories, along with a bonus pick. Best drama Nominees: “Andor,” “Paradise,” “Severance,” “Slow Horses,” “The Diplomat,” “The Pitt,”…
Taste of Chicago will return to its long-held July slot in Grant Park next summer, the city’s cultural commissioner told aldermen this week. The free, city-run food and music festival had been bounced from the spot by NASCAR three years ago. But with the race not taking place in 2026, the once-iconic public pig out is returning to its marquee mid-summer perch, said Clinee Hedspeth, commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. “I think overwhelmingly, the citizens want it back in July, and so we’re excited to do that in 2026,” Hedspeth told aldermen during mid-year budget…
Political violence is abhorrent. It undermines democracy and cannot be tolerated. But the rush to turn conservative activist Charlie Kirk into a martyr for the MAGA movement risks fueling the very division we should be working to contain. As a Black man, I find this martyrdom for someone who has so blatantly pushed racist sentiments not only troubling but also infuriating. Kirk built his platform on provocation. One of his recurring arguments was that Black Americans get ahead because of their skin color, supposedly taking opportunities from more qualified white candidates. This is covert racism and dog whistling, dressed up…
