The close‑knit town of Quincy is still reeling after the tragic death of 92‑year‑old Serina Lofton, whose life ended in a devastating house fire late Monday evening in the 800 block of West Clark Street. Fire crews from the Quincy Fire Department responded to the blaze just after 9:15 p.m., finding the home already engulfed in heavy smoke and flames.

Stepping onto the scene, firefighters were met with a situation that escalated rapidly. Multiple units worked tirelessly to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes, battling the blaze through the night. The department reports that crews remained on scene for about four hours until all hot spots were extinguished and the area secured.

Once the fire was under control, a search of the property revealed the body of Serina Lofton inside the residence. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, they were too late to save her. The department spokesperson confirmed her identity, bringing the heartbreaking news to the small community.

Though no other injuries were reported among residents or fire personnel, the impact of the incident is deeply felt. Neighbors described being awakened by the smell of smoke and the sight of emergency vehicles racing down the street. One resident recalled: “We saw the lights and smoke from down the street and realized something serious was happening.”

Authorities say the cause of the fire is still under investigation, with possible factors being electrical issues, heating appliance malfunction, or an accidental ignition. In the meantime, fire officials took the moment to remind everyone about the importance of working smoke alarms and a clear escape plan, especially as colder weather approaches and residents rely more on heating systems.

In the wake of her passing, the Quincy community has begun to honor Ms. Lofton’s long and generous life. Known for her kindness, warmth and gentle spirit, she was cherished by neighbors who now share heartfelt memories and messages of support for her family. The grief is palpable, but so is the affection.

As investigators continue to work through the details of what caused the fire, Quincy stands united in remembrance of Serina Lofton — a beloved lifelong resident whose legacy of love and community service will not be forgotten. Rest in peace, Serina — forever remembered, forever missed.
