On a brisk Saturday morning in the heart of Birmingham’s Collegeville neighborhood, a routine domestic disturbance call took a tragic turn. At around 10:14 a.m., officers from the Birmingham Police Department North Precinct responded to a report in the 3200 block of 32nd Street North—and while en route, they noticed a vehicle speeding away from the scene, prompting a traffic stop.

Moments later, the initial dispatch was updated to report that someone had been shot. When officers and paramedics arrived at the residence, they found 30-year-old Anson Quandarius Henderson lying unresponsive on the front porch. The fire and rescue team medically pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators say that earlier that morning Henderson had engaged in a verbal dispute with his child’s mother. Though she left the residence after the argument, the situation escalated when another vehicle pulled up shortly afterward. A suspect emerged from that vehicle and fired multiple shots, killing Henderson before fleeing the scene.

At this time, authorities have not released the identity of the shooter, and no arrests have been confirmed. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has notified Henderson’s family, and detectives from the Birmingham Police homicide unit are treating this as an active investigation.

Friends and family who knew Henderson describe him as a devoted father, a loving son and brother, and someone whose laughter and warmth lit up the room. His life was cut short—far too soon—but in the wake of this loss, his memory remains a beacon to those who loved him.

The Birmingham community is now rallying for information: anyone with knowledge of the shooting is encouraged to contact the BPD Homicide Detectives at 205-254-1764, or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

In a neighborhood still waking up on that morning, the shock of Henderson’s death is felt not simply as another stat, but as a human life lost—one with dreams, responsibilities and love. Authorities say the investigation continues, and hope remains that someone will step forward to help piece together the final moments of a man taken far too soon.
