A man identified as Aderius Benton is in custody after being charged with attempted second-degree homicide in connection with a Dec. 1 shooting that injured his girlfriend’s husband in Shreveport, Louisiana.
On December 1, a heated verbal confrontation erupted in the neighborhood of Highland Square, involving Benton, his girlfriend, and her husband. Police say the argument escalated and Benton allegedly opened fire — shooting the husband in both legs before fleeing the scene in a black Nissan Altima.
Neighbors called emergency services, and officers arriving on scene applied tourniquets to slow bleeding before the victim was rushed to a local hospital. He is reportedly stable and recovering.
Following a six-day investigation, authorities located Benton and arrested him on the morning of December 8 at approximately 9:30 a.m. He was booked into jail and formally charged with one count of attempted second-degree homicide.
As news of the arrest broke, social media buzzed with conflicting accounts from both sides. Members of the victim’s family claimed he was shot not two, but seven times, and urged that the wife also face charges. Meanwhile, the suspect’s family insists Benton acted in self-defense — alleging the husband struck first.
Police confirmed the investigation remains open. Detectives say they are still sorting out exactly what triggered the confrontation and whether other charges may be warranted beyond the attempted homicide count.
For now, Benton remains behind bars at the Caddo Parish jail — booked as of December 9, 2025.
