The Carolina Panthers made two significant roster moves on Tuesday, releasing outside linebacker DJ Johnson and waiving injured rookie wide receiver Dalevon Campbell. These changes come ahead of their upcoming game against the Dolphins as the team works to adjust its 53-man roster.

    What Happened

DJ Johnson, a third-round draft pick from Miami in 2023, was released by the Panthers after playing in all four of the team’s games in 2025. Johnson, who recorded two solo tackles this season, had a standout 2024 with 19 solo tackles and 25 assists over 14 games. He started in the Panthers’ loss to the Patriots when outside linebackers Patrick Jones II and D.J. Wonnum were unavailable. Johnson’s release creates an open roster spot as the Panthers continue to evaluate their defensive depth.

In addition, the Panthers waived injured rookie wide receiver Dalevon Campbell. Campbell, who had a quiet game against New England, leaving the game early with a hamstring injury, did not have any catches and contributed only one special teams tackle. The South Carolina product had been expected to add depth to the receiving corps, but the injury ended his brief stint on the active roster.

    Impact on the Roster

These moves leave the Panthers with two open spots on the 53-man roster. Head coach Dave Canales previously announced that rookie wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. will make his season debut on Sunday against the Dolphins, further reshaping the team’s receiving options.
