    Charlie Kirk killed in Utah: Politicians react to activist’s shooting death

    WASHINGTON – Political commentator Charlie Kirk was shot and killed at an event on a college campus in Utah on Wednesday.

    What we know:

    Kirk was at Utah Valley University on Wednesday as part of Turning Point USA’s American Comeback Tour,” on college campuses across the U.S. Kirk was the founder of TPUSA.

    President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk’s death on Truth Social, calling him a “legendary” figure who was “loved and admired by ALL, especially me.”

    Vice President JD Vance posted saying, “Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.”

    What they’re saying:

    Political figures from across the aisle condemned the attack on Wednesday.

    Former President Barack Obama called the shooting “despicable.”

    “We don’t know yet what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy,” Obama wrote on Facebook. “Michelle and I will be praying for Charlie’s family tonight, especially his wife Erika and their two young children.”

    Former Vice President Kamala Harris said she was “disturbed” by the attack.

    “Let me be clear: Political violence has no place in America. I condemn this act, and we all must work together to ensure this does not lead to more violence.”

    House Speaker Rep. Mike Johnson told reporters Wednesday that “Political violence must be called out… We need everyone who has a platform to say this loudly and clearly: we can settle disagreements and disputes in a civil manner.”

    Former Vice President Mike Pence called the shooting shocking, saying that he and his wife were praying for Kirk’s family.

    California Gov. Gavin Newsom called “the attack on Charlie Kirk is disgusting, vile, and reprehensible. In the United States of America, we must reject political violence in EVERY form.”

    “Political violence has no place in our country,” Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro wrote on X. “We must speak with moral clarity. The attack on Charlie Kirk is horrifying and this growing type of unconscionable violence cannot be allowed in our society

    “Horrified by the shooting of Charlie Kirk today in Utah,” New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy posted. “We must unequivocally condemn political violence.”

    What we don’t know:

    The suspected shooter is not yet in custody. Kirk leaves behind a wife and two children. He was 31.
