    The Fayetteville community is mourning the tragic loss of 69-year-old Chong Hwa Otis, who was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Thursday afternoon, November 20, 2025. The collision occurred on Bragg Boulevard near the I-295 off-ramp, and despite efforts to save her, Mrs. Otis was declared dead at the scene.

    At approximately 1:42 p.m. on Thursday, Fayetteville Police responded to a two-vehicle accident involving a white 2025 Chevrolet Silverado and a grey 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis. The crash occurred when Mrs. Otis, driving the Mercury Grand Marquis, was exiting northbound I-295 and attempting to navigate the ramp onto Bragg Boulevard. The vehicles collided, and despite immediate medical assistance, Mrs. Otis was tragically declared dead at the scene.

    The operator of the Silverado, 58-year-old Wilton Allen Nickerson from Stedman, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment. His current condition has not been made public, and officials are still working to determine the circumstances leading up to the crash.

    The Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit is leading the investigation into the incident. Authorities are collecting evidence from the scene, including examining the positions of the vehicles and gathering statements from witnesses.
