Big Spring, Texas — Christian Perez, 25, died early Sunday after the black GMC Sierra he was driving lost control on Father Delaney Street and smashed into a concrete wall, leaving his friends seriously hurt and a tight-knit community in shock. The crash happened around 12:06 a.m. Sunday in the 900 block, according to the Big Spring Police Department, and investigators say speed was a key factor in the wreck.

Perez was alone behind the wheel when the truck veered off the roadway while heading west at a high speed, struck the wall and came to rest in ruins. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Justice of the Peace Campbell made the official pronouncement, and Perez’s family has been notified as the community begins to grieve his sudden loss.

Three young men who were riding with Perez were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. Nineteen-year-old Josue Hernandez was taken to Scenic Mountain Medical Center before being airlifted to Lubbock for critical care. Twenty-three-year-old Willy Gonzales-Solis also suffered severe injuries and was flown out for advanced treatment. Erixon Roblero, another 19-year-old, was treated at Scenic Mountain Medical Center for his injuries.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic in the early hours, with flashing lights and sirens filling the street as neighbors watched crews work to secure the crash site. Friends of Perez said he was known for his easy laugh and big heart, making the news of his death especially heartbreaking for those who knew him well. Family members have begun sharing photos and memories on social media, remembering him as a caring son and loyal friend.

Investigators have kept details limited as they continue to piece together the exact events leading up to the crash. Police confirmed that speed likely played a role but said toxicology and other reports are still pending. The department has asked anyone with information to come forward to help clarify the circumstances.

Big Spring has been no stranger to tragic traffic incidents this year, but this crash has struck a particularly emotional chord. Local leaders paused during Sunday’s city council meeting to offer condolences, and counselors have been made available at schools for students affected by the loss of Perez and the injuries to his peers.

As the investigation continues, Perez’s family and friends are planning a vigil to celebrate his life later this week. Neighbors are already placing flowers and candles near the crash site, turning an ordinary stretch of Father Delaney Street into an impromptu memorial for a young man gone too soon.
