In a dramatic turn of events, 27-year-old Jawon Owens of East Hartford, Connecticut, has been arrested in connection with a fatal September shooting in Corinth, Maine. The Maine State Police say Owens now faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, and aggravated assault with a firearm.

Back in the early morning of September 21, troopers from Maine’s Northern Field Troop were dispatched after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire around 272 Main Street in Corinth. When officers arrived, they found a 32-year-old man from Skowhegan, later identified as Michael McGregor, bleeding and in critical condition. Life-saving measures were taken on the spot, and McGregor was airlifted by LifeFlight to a nearby hospital.

According to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, Roberts died of a gunshot wound, and his death has been officially ruled a homicide.

For weeks, investigators worked across state lines. The Maine State Police conducted a “thorough, multi-agency” investigation. On November 13, Hartford Police arrested Owens without incident — tracking him via a vehicle associated with him and then converging on his location. During the arrest, officers say they recovered a loaded handgun.

Now housed at the Hartford Correctional Facility, Owens is awaiting extradition to Maine, where he’ll make his initial court appearance at the Bangor Judicial Center. Authorities stress that while the investigation remains active, there is no ongoing risk to the public.

Maine State Police are asking anyone with information to reach out to their Major Crimes Unit North at 207‑973‑3700, extension 9, and ask to speak with Detective Jake Ferland. Tips can also be submitted online through their tip portal.

At its core, this is a story about lives shattered: a man dead in his apartment, another seriously wounded outside, and a young suspect now caught — all under the dark shadow of that early September morning.
