Cork, Ireland – A young woman in her 20s has tragically died after being struck by a truck while cycling in Cork City on Thursday evening, September 18, 2025.

The fatal collision happened shortly after 6:15 p.m. at the busy junction of Albert Street and Albert Road. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, the cyclist was pronounced dead.

    Gardaí Investigation

Gardaí confirmed that the truck driver remained at the scene and is assisting with the ongoing investigation. Authorities are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released, as Gardaí are notifying family members.

A Week of Tragedy on Irish Roads

This incident marks the third cyclist death in Ireland in just one week. On September 12, two cyclists were killed in separate collisions in County Meath and County Carlow.

The string of fatalities has fueled concern among road safety advocates, who argue that more must be done to protect vulnerable road users.

    Calls for Action

Local residents and cycling advocacy groups have expressed grief and outrage over the latest tragedy. Campaigners are once again calling for:

    • Stronger safety measures for cyclists

    • Improved cycling infrastructure in cities

    • Greater awareness among motorists when sharing the road

    Growing Road Safety Concerns

Ireland has already seen a troubling rise in road deaths in 2025, and campaigners warn that without urgent reforms, more lives will be lost.

As the community mourns, the latest tragedy underscores the pressing need for systemic changes to make Irish roads safer for all.
