GREENVILLE, Mich. — The Greenville community was rocked on Saturday when 26-year-old Daniel Evans died in a tragic workplace accident at Greenville Steel, leaving family, friends and coworkers in deep sorrow.

Evans, a tow truck worker from Belding, was helping deliver a scrapped forklift to Greenville Steel around 11:45 a.m. when the accident happened, according to Michigan State Police. He and another employee were handling a rollback flatbed truck owned by J&A Towing when Evans ended up on the ground between the cab and the flatbed during the unloading process. Initial reports indicate he became caught between the two parts of the truck, suffering injuries that proved fatal at the scene. Emergency responders pronounced him dead before he could be taken to a hospital.

The scene was chaotic as first responders and investigators from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) worked alongside state police to piece together exactly what happened. Though Greenville Steel is where the incident occurred, officials clarified that the company was not involved in unloading the equipment when Evans was killed.

Co-workers and loved ones have described Evans as a dedicated and hardworking young man. Those who knew him say he took pride in his work and had built solid friendships in the tight-knit Greenville community. Monday morning, his absence was already deeply felt at workplaces and local hangouts across town.

Friends remember him not just for his work ethic but for the way he made ordinary days feel warmer. He was the sort of person who shared a laugh easily and helped others without hesitation, according to colleagues who gathered at Greenville Steel in the hours after the tragedy.

As the investigation continues, MIOSHA officials have not yet released a timeline for their findings, and authorities say more details will be shared when available. For now, community members have turned their focus to supporting Evans’ family, keeping them close in thoughts and prayers, and honoring his memory in simple but profound ways.

In Greenville, where many residents know each other personally or by reputation, the loss of someone so young and present in the daily rhythm of life has struck a poignant chord. His life may have ended abruptly, but the stories shared about him reflect a legacy of genuine connection and generosity.
