CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — A North Carolina man died Friday evening when his car, traveling the wrong way on Dover Road, ran a red light near the North Liberty Church Road intersection and struck three vehicles — injuring six others. At around 5:14 p.m., a 2011 Honda Fit driven by 56-year-old David Johnson of North Carolina barreled westbound on Dover Road — the wrong way, state troopers say — before careening through a red light at the busy intersection. Three vehicles were stopped there: a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu, a 2020 Nissan Kicks, and a 2016 Nissan Versa. Witnesses described a sudden, terrifying impact.
Johnson first sideswiped the Malibu before striking both the Nissan Kicks and the Versa. The force of the crash left the Honda mangled at the center of the chaos. Troopers later confirmed Johnson was not wearing a seat belt, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
