Erin Murphy: Selfie Defies Online Hate

Erin Murphy, known to many as Tabitha from the classic sitcom “Bewitched,” recently shared some thoughts on aging and social media. At 61, she posted a makeup-free photo, not to make a statement about going without makeup or cosmetic procedures, but to encourage kindness online.

Murphy explained that after posting a photo with her sister, some negative comments were made, which prompted her to speak out. She noted that while some comments about her were meant as compliments, they implied that her appearance was due to having had cosmetic surgery.

In response, Murphy posted a barefaced selfie, emphasizing that it was “WITHOUT a facelift, without any makeup.” Her aim wasn’t to discourage cosmetic procedures, but rather to promote a more positive and thoughtful online environment. She believes that people should feel good about themselves and not be subjected to negativity from strangers on the internet.

Murphy, a mother and grandmother, values a balanced approach to life. While she enjoys makeup and the “magic” of how it can transform someone’s look, she also stresses the importance of good skincare and staying active. She prefers a simple routine and focuses on overall well-being.

She also shared an interesting tidbit about her “Bewitched” days, noting that she was chosen for the role of Tabitha because she resembled Samantha Stephens, Elizabeth Montgomery’s character, more than Montgomery herself did off-screen.

Murphy encourages moderation in all things, especially when it comes to diet during the holidays. Instead of strict diets, she believes in enjoying everything in moderation. As her family grows, she’s embracing new traditions and allowing her children to create their own holiday experiences.

Ultimately, Murphy’s message is one of positivity, self-acceptance, and kindness, reminding everyone to think before they post and to focus on building each other up rather than tearing each other down.
