West Jr., who succumbed to a World Trade Center (WTC)-related illness on Friday, October 24, 2025. Firefighter West faithfully served the New York City Fire Department for 24 years, earning respect and admiration for his dedication, courage, and selfless service.
A Life of Service and Sacrifice
Robert V. West Jr. devoted over two decades of his life to protecting the citizens of New York City. Known among his peers for his professionalism and strong sense of duty, he embodied the very spirit of the FDNY — courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment.
His service during and after the September 11, 2001 attacks exemplified the heroism and resilience of New York’s firefighters. Like so many of his brothers and sisters in the department, he continued to face the lasting effects of his exposure during rescue and recovery operations at Ground Zero. His passing serves as another solemn reminder of the continuing sacrifices made by those who responded in the aftermath of 9/11.
