One longtime resident, Gloria Grear, recounted the moment she discovered the tragedy: “I ran down… her mama was down on the ground. She said ‘Lord, they took my baby. My baby’s gone.’” Grear added that Delphine “is a nice, sweet person. She’ll give you the clothes off her back.”
In a heartfelt statement, Manning’s daughter, Careesa, shared the family’s pain and their gratitude that her mother is now at rest: “She was a caretaker to many… someone who would give her very last if you needed it. Though some saw her as tough, those who truly knew her experienced her sweet, tender, and giving heart.”
