Ann Arbor, Michigan — December 2025.
Former University of Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore, 39, has been arrested and charged with home invasion, stalking in a domestic relationship, and breaking and entering, according to a criminal complaint filed in Washtenaw County. The arrest comes days after the university announced Moore was fired with cause.

Moore appeared in court virtually on Friday, where a judge set his bond at $25,000 and imposed strict conditions ahead of his next court date.

    What Happened

According to prosecutors, Sherrone Moore was arrested Wednesday following a report from a woman in Pittsfield Township, just outside Ann Arbor, who told police she was being attacked and had been stalked for months.

The prosecution stated in court that Moore and the alleged victim had been in an intimate relationship for several years. After the woman ended the relationship on Monday, Moore allegedly continued contacting her repeatedly through calls and text messages, despite receiving no response.

Prosecutors further alleged that Moore went to the woman’s apartment on Wednesday, where he entered the residence, took scissors and butter knives from the kitchen, and made what the prosecution described as “threatening, intimidating, and terrifying statements and behaviors.” Authorities said the actions formed the basis for the felony home invasion charge, while the stalking and breaking-and-entering charges are misdemeanors.

    Who Is Sherrone Moore?

Sherrone Moore is a former University of Michigan football coach who had recently completed his second season as head coach of the Wolverines after taking over for Jim Harbaugh. Moore compiled an 18–8 overall record, including a 9–3 season in 2025, before his abrupt dismissal.

He is a married father of three and had been considered a rising figure in college football coaching prior to the allegations and arrest.

    Case Details and Legal Proceedings

During Friday’s virtual court appearance, Moore appeared wearing white jail clothing. His defense attorney argued that Moore has no prior criminal history and does not pose a threat to the public or the complainant.

    The judge ordered Moore to:

    • Have no contact with the alleged victim
    • Wear a GPS monitor upon release
    • Avoid alcohol and other substances
    • Not possess any weapons

Moore later bonded out of custody on Friday, according to online jail records. He is scheduled to return to court on January 22, 2026.

    University of Michigan Response

The University of Michigan confirmed on Wednesday that Moore was terminated with cause, stating that an internal review found “credible evidence” he had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.

University President Domenico Grasso issued a letter to the campus community, urging anyone with information related to Moore’s behavior to come forward.

“There is absolutely no tolerance for this conduct at the University of Michigan,” Grasso wrote.

Following Moore’s firing, Michigan announced that the upcoming Citrus Bowl against the Texas Longhorns will be led by interim head coach Biff Poggi.

    Public and Community Reactions

News of Sherrone Moore’s arrest has sent shockwaves through the Michigan football community and college sports world. Fans, alumni, and commentators have expressed a mix of disbelief, disappointment, and concern, especially given Moore’s recent success on the field and his prominent leadership role.

The case has also sparked renewed conversations about power dynamics, workplace relationships, and accountability in collegiate athletics.

    What Happens Next

The criminal case against Sherrone Moore remains ongoing, with investigators continuing to review evidence and statements. Prosecutors have not indicated whether additional charges could be filed.

As legal proceedings move forward, the former Michigan football coach faces both criminal consequences and lasting professional fallout from the allegations.
