Grace Van Patten Talks About Playing Amanda Knox in New Hulu Series
In Hulu’s new limited series, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, Grace Van Patten takes on the challenging role of Amanda Knox, a college student whose life was forever changed by the tragic murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher. Now 38 and a mother of two, Knox has been closely involved in the production, serving as an executive producer of the series. Van Patten expressed both excitement and nervousness about depicting such an intense period in Knox’s life, especially with Knox present on set.
Van Patten, who is 28 years old, shared her thoughts on how important it was to have Knox’s involvement in the series. “Learning that Amanda would be part of it made me really excited and a bit anxious,” she admitted. “I wondered what she would think about me, a random actress, bringing her story to life.”
During their first meeting, Van Patten was touched by Knox’s openness and vulnerability. “It was beautiful to see how willing she was to share her experiences and trust me,” the actress said, reflecting on the emotional depth of Knox’s story and the way it has been shaped by public perception.
The series chronicles Knox’s journey from her time as a study-abroad student in Italy to her eventual acquittal by Italy’s highest courts seven years later. Van Patten felt a significant connection to the material, saying, “Getting to tell a story that truly matters felt like a rare and important opportunity.”
Interestingly, even five months after filming wrapped, Van Patten feels remnants of Knox within herself. After spending months filming in Rome and Budapest, she quickly transitioned to another project in Vancouver, realizing she had picked up what she calls “Amanda-isms.”
Despite the challenges of portraying such a complex figure, Van Patten emphasized the trust Knox placed in her throughout the process. “She was always there if I needed guidance, which made it easier for me to tell her story authentically,” she shared.
The first two episodes of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox are now available for streaming on Hulu.
