The quiet of a Wednesday morning on Shurling Drive gave way to shock and sorrow when 18‑year‑old De’Kerrio Jamontez Cobb was found shot and killed outside the Citgo gas station where he spent time that day. Loved ones and neighbors in Macon, Georgia, were left grappling with grief and confusion as law enforcement continues a painstaking search for a person of interest believed to be connected to the deadly incident.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, emergency dispatchers received a frantic 911 call around 11:57 a.m. reporting gunfire at the Citgo located at 1904 Shurling Drive. Deputies arrived moments later to find Cobb unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Bibb County Deputy Coroner LuAnn Stone pronounced him dead at the scene, leaving a community stunned by the sudden loss of such a young life.

Deputy Coroner Leon Jones later confirmed that the victim was Cobb, a Macon resident whose life was full of promise and plans for the future. The news spread quickly, prompting an outpouring of grief from friends who remembered him as a bright young man with a gentle spirit. “He had his whole life ahead of him,” one friend shared, echoing the sentiments of many who knew him.

Just after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, the sheriff’s office released a photo of a person of interest captured on surveillance footage at the gas station, urging community members to help identify the individual. Law enforcement officials have stressed that any tip, no matter how small, could prove critical in moving the investigation forward.

Sergeant Christopher Williams with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office personally appealed to the public for support, saying that community cooperation could make all the difference in bringing justice for Cobb and his family. He encouraged residents to contact authorities if they recognize the person in the released images or have any information about the incident.

In the hours and days following the shooting, friends and family have gathered to remember Cobb not just as a victim of violence, but as a beloved son, nephew and friend whose sudden death has left an irreplaceable void. Candlelight vigils, shared memories and heartfelt messages have been exchanged, all reflecting the profound impact he had on those around him.

As the investigation continues, the community remains united in grief and hope, holding Cobb’s family in their thoughts and prayers. The sheriff’s office has asked anyone with information to contact them at (478) 751‑7500 or reach out to Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1‑877‑68CRIME.
