    Jillian Michaels, the well-known fitness expert, has shared some simple advice for staying healthy during the holiday season. Her main point is to focus on “balance” rather than strict dieting.

    Michaels suggests following the “80/20 rule.” This means that 80% of the time, you should eat healthy, sensible foods. The other 20% allows you to enjoy some of the treats and drinks that come with celebrations, like a glass of wine or a piece of pie.

    The key, she says, is to keep track of your calories, comparing it to managing a bank account. If you know how many calories you need to maintain your weight, aim to eat that amount. You can then make room for holiday goodies without going overboard.

    Michaels cautions against putting on a few pounds each holiday season and never taking them off. These small gains can add up over the years, leading to significant weight gain. It’s better to balance things out as you go.

    If you indulge at a party one night, make sure to eat a bit healthier or exercise a little more the next day. This way, you can enjoy the festivities without completely derailing your health goals. She compares this to a budget – if you spend more in one area, you need to cut back in another.

    Michaels also warns against “all or nothing” thinking, which often leads to yo-yo dieting. It’s better to aim for consistent, sustainable habits throughout the year. If you eat a bit more one day, just eat a bit less or move a bit more the next.

    In short, Michaels encourages people to be mindful of what they eat during the holidays, but also to allow themselves some enjoyment. By focusing on balance and consistency, people can stay healthy without feeling deprived.
