PASADENA, Calif. – In a stunning display of teamwork and grit, the Indiana Hoosiers secured a decisive 38-3 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl. The Hoosiers’ dominant performance has propelled them to the College Football Playoff semifinals, marking a significant achievement for the program.

While quarterback Fernando Mendoza, fresh off winning the Heisman Trophy, contributed with 192 passing yards and three touchdowns, the spotlight unexpectedly landed on center Pat Coogan. In a move celebrated by teammates, Coogan was named the offensive MVP, a testament to the Hoosiers’ dominance in the trenches.

“It’s probably the first, if I had to guess, offensive lineman MVP award,” Coogan said, underscoring the collective effort and belief within the team.

The Hoosiers’ victory was built on a foundation of hard-nosed football, outperforming Alabama on both sides of the ball. Indiana’s coach, Curt Cignetti, praised his team’s mindset and ability to capitalize on opportunities, particularly in the second half.

Indiana’s offense showcased a balanced attack, with Charlie Becker, Omar Cooper Jr., and Elijah Sarratt catching touchdown passes, and Kaelon Black rushing for 99 yards. The Hoosier defense stifled Alabama’s offense, limiting them to just 193 total yards.

The victory represents a remarkable turnaround for Indiana’s football program. Coach Cignetti has instilled a culture of discipline and determination.

Looking ahead, the Hoosiers will face Oregon in the CFP semifinals. While Oregon presents a formidable challenge, Indiana has already proven their ability to compete with the nation’s top teams, having defeated the Ducks earlier in the season.

Alabama, traditionally a powerhouse in college football, struggled to find their footing in the Rose Bowl. Coach Kalen DeBoer acknowledged the team’s disappointment.

Indiana’s Rose Bowl victory is a testament to the values of hard work, teamwork, and perseverance. The Hoosiers have not only achieved a significant milestone for their program but have also demonstrated the importance of these principles in achieving success.
