A young woman in Indiana, who admitted to planning a school shooting, has learned her punishment. Trinity Shockley, now 19 years old, will spend 12 years in prison.
Earlier this year, Shockley was taken into custody after someone who knew her contacted the FBI. The person told the FBI that Shockley was planning a shooting at Mooresville High School, and that she had access to a weapon.
In court, Shockley said she was sorry for causing fear. She also said that her mental health has improved since being around supportive people.
Her lawyer said that Shockley never really intended to go through with the shooting, but she talked about it a lot. The prosecutor in the case said the sentence was fair, considering how much planning Shockley had done.
The FBI said that this case shows how important it is for people to speak up when they see something concerning.
