Video showed a shirtless and shackled inmate climbing out the back of a corrections van as it sped down an Oklahoma freeway, begging for help from drivers.
Cell phone footage recorded on September 2 showed the unidentified inmate with his full torso sticking out of a broken-out window on the rear of the prison transport vehicle as it travels down Interstate 40 in Oklahoma City, NBC News reported.
The man is seen alternately begging drivers for help and attempting to open the back door he is precariously dangling out of.
“We thought it was a joke at first,” witness and videographer Tiggin Martin told KFOR.
“Don’t you f—kin’ do it, bro,” either Martin or her sister are heard saying on the video obtained by NBC.
The witnesses said that the entire scary incident lasted 2 minutes.
The Corrections Department said the van was in the middle of a routine transport when the prisoner broke the window.
“Our officers immediately recognized the situation, exited the highway and called for additional law enforcement support,” a statement said. “The inmate was safely secured and transported without further incident.”
