Cornerback Kris Boyd, 29, of the New York Jets is reportedly in stable condition after being critically injured in a shooting early Sunday in Midtown Manhattan. The incident took place just after 2 a.m. on West 38th Street near 7th Avenue, outside a restaurant, when he was shot in the abdomen.

Boyd was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he remains listed in critical but stable condition, according to the New York Police Department. No arrests have been made yet and investigators say the case is ongoing.

Earlier reports had confirmed the shooting occurred after a dispute outside the West 38th Street venue. Witnesses say two luxury vehicles — one believed to be connected to the shooter — fled the scene. Meanwhile, Boyd’s close friend and former mentor from his college days at the University of Texas, Ernest Quander, offered an encouraging update: “He’s all good right now. He’s in good condition. He’s doing real good,” Quander said. “He’s a soldier, through tough times… He’s fine. He’s fine.”

The Jets issued a brief statement confirming awareness of the incident: “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”

Boyd signed with the Jets in March 2025 after stops in Minnesota, Arizona and Houston, and was on injured reserve this year due to a shoulder injury sustained during training camp practice in August. He had not appeared in a game this season.

Friends, teammates and the wider NFL community have rallied with messages of support. Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson and defensive tackle Harrison Phillips both took to social media asking for prayers and strength for Boyd and his family.

As the investigation continues and law enforcement works to identify the shooter, the focus remains on Boyd’s recovery. His resilience, quiet leadership and support system are clear — and for a player who has battled through injuries and life’s challenges, there’s reason to hope he’ll pull through this chapter too.
