Joe Corrao, a familiar and steady presence in youth baseball across Lorain, Ohio, died unexpectedly at his home on December 14, 2025. He was 69 years old. Corrao’s passing has left a deep sadness in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone in the community who knew him from the neighborhood fields to Saturday tournaments.

Joe was born on June 5, 1956, and grew up in Lorain with a strong sense of family and community values. Those who knew him best describe him as warm, dependable, and generous — a man who always had time for a friendly word or a bit of encouragement before a game. His presence was a comfort to many, and his loss is felt deeply by those who saw him as more than just an umpire or neighbor.

For years, Joe dedicated himself to youth sports, especially through the Sheffield-Sheffield Lake Youth Baseball Association. More than just officiating games, he helped young athletes understand the spirit of fair play, respect, and teamwork. Coaches and parents often said Joe’s calm voice and clear explanations helped kids grow not just as players, but as young people learning life lessons on and off the field.

Off the diamond, Joe’s life was all about connection and care. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Annette Corrao, who stood by his side through life’s highs and lows. Family was always front and center for Joe. His parents, Dena Corrao (DeAngelis) and Joseph J. Corrao, instilled in him values of kindness and service that guided him throughout his life.

Joe also treasured time with his sisters — Diane Flock, Angela Corrao, and Janet Jasinski — and with his extended family, including in-laws Rose (Ianni) and Dan Naelitz, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family gatherings were filled with laughter, shared stories, and the kind of traditions that become precious memories over time.

The legacy of his grandparents — Angeline (Amato), Serafino DeAngelis, Anna (Mishak), and Angelo “Babe” Corrao — lived on through Joe’s compassion and gentle strength. Those close to him often spoke of how he carried their teachings of faith and generosity in everything he did.

Friends, neighbors, and members of the baseball community will gather to celebrate Joe’s life and honor his influence. A visitation will take place on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Reidy Scanlan Giovannazzo Funeral Home in Lorain, followed by a prayer service and Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, December 22 at the Church of St. Peter. Memorial donations in Joe’s name are being accepted for the Sheffield-Sheffield Lake Youth Baseball Association, reflecting his lifelong belief in supporting young people and fostering community spirit.
