It is with heavy hearts that the family, friends, and Scouting community share the news of the passing of John Lamb, a remarkable Explorer Scout and Young Leader, who died peacefully on the morning of August 11 at the age of just 15. John faced a progressive illness with extraordinary bravery, living every day with determination and joy.

    John’s Scouting Journey

John’s adventure in Scouting began with the 8th Widnes group as a Beaver and continued through the Cub and Scout sections. His commitment to Scouting shone through as he achieved the Chief Scout Gold Award and later joined Beacon Explorers.

Dedicated to giving back, John volunteered as a Young Leader with the Beaver section at 12th Widnes, where he quickly earned the affectionate nickname “Chil”—after the Kite from The Jungle Book—from leaders and young members alike.

    Overcoming Challenges with Courage

When his illness made travel difficult, John joined Aquila Explorers in Widnes, where he was warmly welcomed and continued to contribute actively. He championed youth participation, regularly attending Youth Forums and speaking on behalf of his group. Just days before his passing, John was awarded his Young Leader Belt, a recognition of his skill, commitment, and leadership.

    A Spirit of Adventure

John’s love for the outdoors and climbing was infectious. Even as his health declined, he embraced every opportunity for adventure with enthusiasm. Known for his quick wit, wicked sense of humor, and caring heart, John brought light and laughter to those around him, no matter the circumstances.

    Remembering John

John is survived by his loving parents, Lilly and Ian, his brother Aidan, and all those whose lives he touched through his kindness, courage, and passion for Scouting. His legacy will continue to inspire young people to embrace life’s adventures and help others along the way.

Rest easy, John. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
