Israel Issues Warnings in Southern Lebanon Amid Rising Tensions
Tel Aviv, Israel – The Israeli military has issued warnings to residents of two villages in southern Lebanon, urging them to evacuate buildings near suspected Hezbollah sites. This comes as tensions between Israel and militant groups continue to escalate.
Over the past day, at least 14 individuals in Lebanon have tragically lost their lives due to Israeli strikes targeting locations the military asserts are linked to Hezbollah and Hamas.
Earlier, an Israeli airstrike struck a vehicle in southern Lebanon, resulting in one fatality and injuries to 11 others, including students traveling on a nearby bus, according to reports from the Lebanese Health Ministry and state media.
This strike in the village of Tiri followed an Israeli drone attack on the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp in southern Lebanon, which resulted in 13 deaths and numerous injuries. The Tuesday night strike marked the deadliest incident since a ceasefire was established following the Israel-Hezbollah war a year ago.
Lebanese authorities prevented journalists from entering the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp, just outside the port city of Sidon.
The Israeli military stated it targeted a Hamas training compound used to prepare attacks against Israel. The military affirmed its commitment to acting against Hamas wherever the group operates. Hamas has denied the claim that the targeted site was a training compound.
The U.S. has recently increased pressure on Lebanon to work harder on disarming Hezbollah.
The latest conflict between Israel and Hezbollah began on October 8, 2023, following Hamas’s attack on southern Israel. Hezbollah initiated rocket attacks into Israel in solidarity with Hamas, prompting a widespread Israeli response.
