Lineman Kyle Ferree Dies in On-the-Job Tragedy, Leaving Wife and Young Children to Carry His Legacy

Early on Thursday, November 6, 2025, lineman Kyle Ferree lost his life while doing the work he loved — climbing poles and restoring power in the field with his crew at Louisville Gas & Electric/Kentucky Utilities (LG&E/KU). Though details of the workplace accident have not been publicly shared, the shock waves are being felt across his family, his union, and the community.

Kyle was a proud brother of IBEW Local 2100 — a union that speaks of him as a committed craftsman, a dependable teammate, and someone who showed up for others just as much as he showed up for his family. He lived in Corydon, Indiana, originally from New Middletown, Indiana, and graduated from Corydon Central High School. He leaves behind his loving spouse, Hunter Ferree, and their young children, a household cut off now from Kyle’s income and the stability he brought.

Outside of line-work, Kyle had a real affinity for nature: hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors with his kids when he could — and bringing the same loyalty and quiet strength into his home and friendships. That blend of rugged outdoor passion and steady dependability is how friends and coworkers remember him. In the face of such sudden loss, the family now confronts new challenges: lost income, bills, housing and childcare needs, and the emotional toll of grief.

In the spirit of honoring Kyle’s dedication, his “work family” has rallied around Hunter and the kids. A fund has been established via the nonprofit initiative Help a Hero/NSU JL specifically for the Ferree family, offering direct support for housing, utilities, childcare, counseling, and other immediate needs. It’s a tangible way for the community and the union to step in while the family navigates the hardest of days.

Kyle’s death leaves a void not just in his home but in the field and on the job site. Co-workers speak of the man who “showed up” — for call-outs, for tough weather, for whatever the job demanded. Now their once-steady teammate is gone, and they’re forced to reckon with the danger that comes with this work, the fragility of life, and the importance of holding one another up.

As the local community — in Indiana, Kentucky and beyond — rallies behind the Ferrees, there’s a quiet reminder that Kyle’s legacy isn’t just his service, but his love: for his wife, for his children, for his crew. Every conversation about what happens next for Hunter and the kids begins with how Kyle lifted others, and how that spirit will now live through them.

If you’d like to honor Kyle’s life and support his family during this transition, donations to the Help a Hero campaign for Kyle Ferree go directly to Hunter and their children. It’s one way to ensure that while Kyle’s presence is gone, his impact continues — through help, through memories, through the lives he touched.

Kyle’s is a story of dedication, risk, love and community. While we mourn a man taken too soon, we also remember what he stood for — the hard work, the outdoors, the family, the fellowship — and we vow to keep that flame alive.
