On a quiet Sunday morning that took a devastating turn, 72‑year‑old resident Shirley Woods of Cincinnati lost her life after being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of West 8th Street and Trenton Avenue in the West Price Hill neighborhood. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m., and emergency crews with the Cincinnati Fire Department were dispatched at approximately 11:34 a.m. after reports of a woman hit by a vehicle.

When responders arrived, they found Woods suffering from severe, life‑threatening injuries in the roadway. She was rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries. The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office has since officially confirmed her death.

As of now, the details surrounding the crash remain sparse. Authorities have not released information about what type of vehicle was involved, nor have they stated whether the driver remained at the scene. The Cincinnati Police Department Traffic Unit is handling the investigation and has requested any witnesses with video footage or other information to come forward.

Members of the West Price Hill community say the area around West 8th and Trenton has long been a concern. Neighbors note that speeding is common and the traffic flow can make crossing the street especially risky for older residents. One local resident told media: “People drive fast down this road all the time. It’s heartbreaking that someone lost their life because of it.” This sentiment now resonates more deeply than ever in light of Woods’s death.

Woods’s passing has stirred renewed attention on pedestrian safety in Cincinnati. State data show that pedestrian‑related crashes have increased in recent years, particularly in residential neighborhoods where people might expect to walk safely. Local officials are being urged to enhance crosswalk visibility, install traffic‑calming measures, and increase enforcement in problem areas such as West Price Hill.

A small memorial of flowers and candles now sits near the intersection where Woods was struck — a silent but poignant tribute to her life and a reminder of the hazards present on everyday streets. The community is in mourning and at the same time demanding that something change.

While the investigation continues, authorities emphasize they are still gathering information. Anyone who witnessed the crash or may have captured it on video is asked to contact the Cincinnati Police Traffic Unit. In the meantime, the tragic loss of Shirley Woods serves as a somber wake‑up call about the importance of pedestrian safety and awareness on local roads.
