A quiet afternoon in Larkin Township turned tragic on Tuesday. Around 1:40 p.m., emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of North Sturgeon Road and East Monroe Road. Authorities soon confirmed the heartbreaking news: a local man had died, and a woman was injured.

The driver who lost his life was identified as 78-year-old Daniel Graiver, a well-known face in the community. He was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Impala heading west along East Monroe Road, which is governed by a stop sign at North Sturgeon Road. Just as he entered the intersection, his car was struck by a 2026 Chevrolet Traverse traveling northbound. The impact was severe, damaging both vehicles heavily.

The other driver, a 37-year-old woman from Mills Township, remained on scene and cooperated fully with investigators. She was transported to a local hospital with injuries officials describe as non-life-threatening. Graiver, however, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies closed off the intersection for hours while they collected evidence, assessed the crash dynamics, and cleared debris. The Midland County Sheriff’s Office reports the case is still under active investigation. They’re examining visibility, traffic patterns, vehicle mechanics, and any possible contributing factors such as sight lines or signage.

Friends, neighbors, and township residents were shaken by the loss. Many remembered Graiver as a dependable, kind neighbor—someone who would always lend a hand, spare time for a chat, or simply stop to help. “He was the kind of person who would stop to help anyone,” one neighbor shared. The outpouring of grief underscores how deeply grounded he was in the life of the community.

Officials are urging drivers to use extra caution at intersections—especially those controlled only by stop signs. They remind everyone: slow down, look all ways, and don’t rush into crossings until you’re sure it’s safe. As investigations continue, authorities also invite anyone with additional information about Tuesday’s crash to come forward.
