Late Sunday night, the quiet at the corner of 31st Street and Glendale Avenue in Milwaukee was shattered when a 44-year-old man, identified as Lakendrick Roby, was found suffering from gunshot wounds and later died at the scene. The fatal incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. and prompted a swift and heavy response from the Milwaukee Police Department and emergency medical personnel.

According to police, Roby was located at the scene when officers arrived, already in critical condition. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his identity and ruled the cause of death related to the gunshot injuries. Despite life-saving attempts, officials say he was pronounced dead there on site.

Investigators from the MPD’s Homicide Division have taken charge of the case, working to piece together what happened. Their efforts include reviewing surveillance footage from nearby locations and interviewing witnesses who might have heard or seen anything out of the ordinary around the time of the shooting. As of Monday morning, no arrests had been made and no public details had been released regarding a motive.

In the hours after the shooting, police made clear that they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public — though they did increase patrols in the neighborhood out of an abundance of caution. Meanwhile, local leaders and residents expressed sorrow mixed with frustration, noting that another life lost to violence underscores the need for stronger community programs focused on conflict resolution, mentorship and neighborhood safety.

Friends and family described Roby as a generous, family-oriented person whose sudden death has left a deep void. At the scene, neighbors have placed flowers and lit candles in memory of him, turning the quiet corner into a small tribute. The human side of this story continues to ripple through the community.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to step forward. They’ve provided contact details for the Milwaukee Police Department as well as a tip line through Crime Stoppers. The hope is that public cooperation will help identify those responsible and bring some measure of justice and closure for the victim’s loved ones.

As the investigation proceeds, the vacuum created by Roby’s death remains tangible. The community is left grappling with unanswered questions: Why did this happen? Who pulled the trigger? And how can such tragedies be prevented, before more lives are lost?
