A young woman has been identified as the victim of a lone‑vehicle crash that killed her early Monday morning east of Fort Wayne. Authorities say the car veered off the road, flew over an embankment and smashed into a tree — a tragic end in icy conditions.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office confirmed Tuesday that the driver was 25‑year-old Madelyn Brianne Wurster of Berne. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Emergency crews were called around 6:01 a.m. to the scene at the intersection of Irving Road and Thimlar Road after receiving a report of a crash.

When rescuers arrived, Wurster was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel of East Central Fire and EMS Territory.

According to the sheriff’s department, Wurster’s vehicle was traveling eastbound when it unexpectedly left the roadway. It struck a driveway embankment before going airborne and crashing into a nearby tree. The force of the impact inflicted fatal blunt force injuries.

No other people were in the car. Investigators say road conditions at the time appeared snowy and icy, though the exact cause remains under investigation.

In a short press statement, the department said that the identity of the deceased would be released once it was confirmed by the coroner’s office — a process that concluded Tuesday.

The crash remains under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether speed, impairment, or other factors played a role.
