MILFORD, Mich. — The quiet of New Year’s Eve in this tight‑knit community was shattered on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, when 26‑year‑old Peyton Michael Bilbia was found dead in his Milford apartment after what police are calling a violent attack. Loved ones and friends are now left grappling with shock, grief, and unanswered questions as investigators work to piece together what happened.

Milford police were alerted late Wednesday afternoon when Peyton’s girlfriend, worried after not hearing from him for some time, called for a welfare check at his home on the 800 block of East Summit Street. Officers made entry around 4:25 p.m. and discovered him unresponsive with injuries consistent with a violent assault.

Authorities have arrested a 29‑year‑old man from Sterling Heights, who remains in the Oakland County Jail in connection with the incident. Police Chief Scott Tarasiewicz said the suspect and the victim were believed to have known each other, and that the attack did not appear random. Formal charges have not yet been announced as the investigation continues.

Those who knew Peyton describe him as someone full of life and ambition. Born on March 7, 1999, in Pontiac, Michigan, he grew up in Grand Blanc and graduated from Holly High School in 2017. He later attended the University of Michigan–Flint, where he embraced every opportunity to learn and grow.

Earlier this year, Peyton moved to Milford, excited about starting a new chapter. He worked at D.E. McNabb Flooring in New Hudson, where coworkers admired his strong work ethic and easygoing nature. Outside of work, he loved mountain biking, working out, movies and music, and was a loyal fan of University of Michigan football. Most of all, he treasured time with his beloved dogs and the people closest to him.

Family and friends remember him as a kind soul whose laughter and warmth lit up any room. He was devoted to his parents, Mathew and Abbie Bilbia of Grand Blanc, and adored his sisters, Makayla and Ella. His grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive him. Those who loved him say nothing will ever be the same without his bright spirit in their lives.

Plans for Peyton’s funeral are scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Grand Blanc, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. and the service at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Genesee County, honoring Peyton’s love for animals.

As Milford comes to terms with this loss, authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Milford Police Department at 248‑684‑1815. Peyton’s family and community are holding onto memories of his warmth, humor, and the promise of a life that ended far too soon.
