A grim discovery ended a tense search on Saturday: 26-year-old Mohammed Halawa — who vanished earlier in the week — was found dead in a wooded area near Clarksville, Md.

Mohammed Halawa was last seen on Thursday, December 4, stepping out of his home on foot around noon in the 5900 block of Trotter Road. Concern quickly mounted among family members and local authorities. He was reportedly coping with serious health issues and had essential medication at home — but left without it, and without a cell phone.

Conditions only heightened the alarm: temperatures had dropped sharply, and those close to him feared the worst if he stayed outside unprotected.

For more than a day, first responders and volunteers searched wooded areas around Trotter Road, South Wind Circle and the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area in Clarksville.

Then, on the morning of December 6 at about 10:30 a.m., a search team located Halawa’s body in the woods. Officials later confirmed there were no signs of foul play.

Halawa — described as a white male with dark hair and eyes — had last been seen wearing dark sweatpants, a dark green jacket over a white T-shirt, and red flip-flops. At the time, the weather was bitter, and Halawa was reportedly not dressed for the cold.

As investigators wrap up their on-site work, authorities say the death does not appear to be suspicious. For the family and neighbors, however, the tragedy underscores how quickly a desperate situation — no medication, no phone, freezing weather — can turn fatal. In a matter of hours, what began as a call for help ended in heartbreak.
