Tragic Shooting Claims Life of Young Mother

A heartbreaking incident occurred on Wednesday, August 13, when 23-year-old Redaja “Juicy” Williams was fatally shot while taking her 7-year-old daughter to the school bus stop in Louisville, Kentucky. This tragic event unfolded around 8 a.m. in the vicinity of Coleridge-Taylor Montessori Elementary School.

Williams was quickly transported to the University of Louisville Hospital, but she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. Her family has identified her and shared that she was not only a devoted mother to her daughter but also had a 2-year-old child.

Witnesses described the chaotic scene, with one neighbor recalling her desperate attempts to protect her own children and others. “I screamed and yelled for everyone to get down,” said Kendra LaRue, who witnessed the incident unfold. The memory of Williams gasping for air haunts her.

Initially, a 15-year-old boy was questioned as a possible suspect, but he was released and later charged in an unrelated shooting. The police are still on the hunt for the individual responsible for Williams’ death.

Williams’ sister, Lavett Knuckles, recounted the harrowing moment she saw her sister on the ground. “I had to watch her take her last breath. There was nothing I could do,” she said. This loss deeply affected not only her family but also the young children who witnessed the shooting, leaving them traumatized.

The family is now calling for justice. “We want the killer caught as soon as possible,” expressed Williams’ mother, Schreida Simmons, emphasizing that her daughter was full of life and joy.

In a press conference, her aunt, Donna Cole, urged the public to remember Williams positively. “Be proactive in your community. Don’t just talk about the problems—take action,” she said, highlighting the ongoing fear in the community.

Williams’ grandfather, Bruce Simmons, voiced a broader concern about gun violence, stating that it impacts everyday life. “It’s gotta stop somewhere,” he insisted.

In light of this tragedy, Jefferson County Public Schools and local organizations plan to provide counseling for the young witnesses affected by the shooting, acknowledging the long-lasting impact such traumatic events can have on children.

The Louisville Metro Police Department is urging anyone with information related to the case to reach out through their anonymous tip line. As the community mourns this devastating loss, calls for accountability and support continue to grow.
