The city of Montgomery is reeling after the tragic death of 19-year-old Kashabe Perkins Jr., who was shot early Friday morning on the 4600 block of Mobile Highway. First responders found Kashabe with a life-threatening gunshot wound; he was rushed to a nearby hospital, but later pronounced dead.

Also wounded in the shooting were a teenage boy—whose age hasn’t been made public—and a woman. Police say the boy’s injuries are life-threatening, while the woman’s are not.

Authorities discovered two firearms at the scene, but as of now, no suspect has been identified and no motive has been released.

In the days since, friends and neighbors have expressed deep sorrow over Kashabe’s death. Those who knew him paint a picture of a young man who filled rooms with his bright energy—a presence that meant laughter, warmth, and connection. His family and community are now coming together, sharing stories about how he loved freely and touched lives with his kindness.

Though the investigation remains open, the impact of this loss is already being felt. Community members are urging anyone with information to reach out to CrimeStoppers at 334-215-STOP or to the Montgomery Police Department at 334-625-2831.

As the city mourns, people are also honoring Kashabe’s memory by holding onto the light he brought to others: the smiles, the warmth, and the joy he offered just by being himself. His legacy, they say, isn’t just in his short life, but in the kindness he offered and the way he inspired those around him.

It’s a heartbreak felt not only by his family, but by a neighborhood that lost someone too soon. Rest in peace, Kashabe—you will be dearly missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
