A harrowing scene unfolded Friday morning when 68‑year-old Morrine Cox failed to stop at the intersection of U.S. 431 and Cleaton Road in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky — sending their vehicle into the path of two oncoming vehicles and triggering a fatal three‑car crash that claimed the lives of Cox and a passenger.

According to officials from Kentucky State Police Post 2, first responders were dispatched around 11:15 a.m. to the area near the 15‑mile marker on US‑431 north.

Preliminary investigations show that one vehicle was traveling north on US‑431, while a semi-truck was moving south. As traffic flowed they say Cox’s car — the third vehicle — came up and failed to stop at the Cleaton Road intersection. That vehicle cut directly into the path of both the northbound car and the southbound semi.

The impact was catastrophic. Cox and their passenger, 64‑year-old Virginia Grimes, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Muhlenberg County Coroner.

Meanwhile, both the other car’s driver and the semi‑truck operator suffered injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The crash forced authorities to shut down US‑431 around the crash site, with detours posted via KY‑2107 while the investigation and road cleanup were underway. Officials say the closure lasted several hours.

At this point, Kentucky State Police say their investigation into the events that led up to the collision is ongoing. As they piece together the final moments before impact, officials are urging anyone with additional information or dash‑cam footage related to the crash to come forward.
