Muskegon Suspect in Jackson Hill Shooting — Dewaun Deshawn Robinson — In Custody After Deadly Attack

On Saturday afternoon, quiet streets in the Jackson Hill neighborhood of Muskegon were shattered when gunfire tore through a home on the 600 block of Jackson Avenue. By the time police arrived around 3:15 p.m., two people — a 25‑year-old man and a 22‑year-old woman — had been killed. Three others were wounded, including a 4‑year-old child who suffered minor injuries and is expected to be released soon.

Within hours, investigators identified 25‑year-old Dewaun Deshawn Robinson as the prime suspect in the shooting. Robinson was found in custody and hospitalized with gunshot wounds — reportedly incurred during the same incident.

Officials say this is no random act. While they have not revealed motives, law enforcement noted Robinson’s past includes home‑invasion offenses — a history that may now factor heavily into the unfolding investigation.

As word spread through the community, Ken Johnson, the mayor of Muskegon, called for unity and compassion in the wake of tragedy. In a public statement issued Saturday night, he urged residents to hold the victims, their families, first responders, and medical teams “in our hearts, prayers, and thoughts.” He implored neighbors to come together as the city searches for justice.

Behind the headlines: friends and neighbors described the Jackson Hill area as the kind of place where children play in yards and people greet each other on sidewalks — not the kind of place where gunshots ring out. The shock, they say, still lingers. Police continue to canvas the neighborhood, interview witnesses, and review all available evidence, urging anyone with information to come forward.

The police have asked anyone who may know something to contact the Muskegon Police Department at 231‑724‑6750. For those who prefer to remain anonymous, tips can also be submitted to the local hotline, Silent Observer, at 231‑722‑7463.
