New Jersey Governor Race Tightens as Election Nears
BELLEVILLE, N.J. – The race for New Jersey governor is heating up, with both candidates making their case to voters. Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli is working hard to close the gap with Democratic nominee Rep. Mikie Sherrill.
Ciattarelli expressed confidence after speaking with voters, saying, “I think we’re in a great position.” Recent polls show Ciattarelli gaining ground in this key election.
In New Jersey, there are more registered Democrats than Republicans. However, polls suggest Ciattarelli is making inroads. He highlighted the support he’s receiving from some Democratic mayors, noting, “it says people want change.”
Ciattarelli has been actively campaigning across the state, encouraging supporters to vote, especially with early voting starting soon.
Former President Donald Trump is expected to hold a rally with Ciattarelli before Election Day. Prominent figures like Vivek Ramaswamy and Rep. Byron Donalds are also supporting Ciattarelli’s campaign.
Donalds emphasized the importance of winning, stating, “We got to help everybody get across the line.”
Patrick Cassio, a former GOP chair, noted the potential impact of engaging Trump voters, saying, “a lot of Trump voters do not vote for anybody else, so getting guys out that they like will get them out to vote.”
Ciattarelli believes this election feels different due to the close result in the previous election.
Sherrill is also campaigning actively, joined by prominent Democrats like Govs. Gretchen Whitmer and Wes Moore. Former President Barack Obama is scheduled to hold a rally with her just before Election Day.
Sherrill has highlighted her campaign’s efforts to get out the vote.
“We’re seeing great returns on the vote by mails. We’ll start early voting the 25th, which we’re really excited about. We’re seeing a ton of energy on the ground,” she told.
