The Oktoberfest fairgrounds in Munich were closed on Wednesday morning after a bomb threat was issued by a 57-year-old German man who later took his own life. The threat forced authorities to evacuate the area and initiate a bomb squad response.

    What Happened

On Wednesday morning, a bomb threat was made against the Oktoberfest festival, prompting police to close the fairgrounds. Authorities said the 57-year-old man set his family house on fire, issued the bomb threat, and subsequently took his own life. The man was found carrying an explosive device in his backpack.

The incident began before dawn when explosions were heard inside the burning house in the Lerchenau district of northern Munich. Police commandos rushed to the scene, where a van was also found torched. Authorities discovered two wounded individuals at the scene, with the man later dying from his injuries. His 81-year-old mother and 21-year-old daughter were both injured.

    Bomb Threat and Search Efforts

As the police responded to the incident, they discovered explosive devices inside the suspect’s house. A bomb squad was deployed to defuse the devices, and special forces were called in to assist. The suspect had reportedly issued a written threat against Oktoberfest, raising concerns about the safety of the festival.

The Oktoberfest, one of the largest events in the world, had welcomed millions of visitors in previous years, making the threat even more alarming. Police said the suspect’s actions and the situation posed no further threat to the public, as no additional risks have been identified.

    Investigations and Ongoing Response

Investigators are continuing to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the suspect’s motive and the nature of the explosives found. Police have confirmed that there are no indications that other individuals are involved in the threat.

The Oktoberfest festival, which runs from September 20 to October 5, remains closed until at least 5 p.m. local time for safety reasons, while authorities complete their investigation.
